BERLIN, Germany – Last June 20, 2018, Mr. Takashi Sumi, the President & CEO of Atlas Fertilizer Corporation, the Philippines largest and oldest fertilizer manufacturer, received great honor for AFC and Filipino farmers nationwide as he was recently elected into the Board of Directors of the International Fertilizer Association (IFA). For the first time in many years, the Philippines has again been recognized to represent Southeast Asia by gaining a seat in the Board of Directors.
IFA was established in 1927 and is the only global fertilizer association with membership in over 70 countries. Members include fertilizer manufacturers, traders, distributors and various associations, research institutions and non-government organizations (NGOs). IFA internationally advocates for the efficient and responsible production, distributions, and use of plant nutrients and would want to see a productive and sustainable agricultural systems that contribute to a world free of hunger and malnutrition.
As part of the Board, Mr. Sumi will take part in the management of IFA’s business, giving direction and ensuring that the Association progresses in its mission and vision for the world. It is a director’s responsibility to represent and champion to international attention both improvements and challenges from the region such as new production processes, quality assurances, and increasing fertilizer acceptance & usage. Aiming for a bright future, IFA will lead agriculture, and farming with its advocacies and innovations that will transform the industry for the decades to come.
